Hi Everybody,
yes, we are still alive and well! Between travelling so much and the frequent lack (or inconvenience) of Internet services my planned reports have turned out to be rather infrequent.
Here is a quick report of what we have done since I sent the last email:
Porto
From Asturias, we travelled to Santiago de Compostela (Galicia), the famous end of the Camino de Santiago Pilgrim Trail that runs across Europe.
Santiago de Compostela is a city of about 80,000. It has a lot of nice architecture but I find is in dire need of restoration, as buildings in general
and historical monuments in particular, seem to start decaying. The cool, humid and salty air next to the ocean probably does not make maintenance an
easy task. A very traditional dish is Octopus (Tintenfish), but I just can't get myself to eat it, so I settled for other types of seafood and fish.
From Santiago we drove into Portugal and made Porto our first stop. Porto is beautiful with all it's colours and the ocean. It reminded me a lot of Mexico,
even though life is much more modern. We ate a lot of cod, the type of fish most often found on the menu in Portugal and Spain and, of course, we had to
have try some good Port wine as well. Somehow I had assumed that most people would speak Spanish in Porto but that was not the case. My limited knowledge
of Spanish did not help a heck of a lot.
